For the Dress you Wore Once

Many brides wonder what they will do with their wedding dresses after the wedding day. Some brides happily store their dresses away, hoping that they will be worn in the future. Some brides love their gowns, but hesitate to place the gown in storage. They would prefer to reuse the gown for something special.

A special way to reuse a wedding gown would be to make another gown or dress from it. As a doll artisan, I could recommend some doll projects that would beautifully reuse a wedding gown. Two projects, which would elicit many admiring smiles, are:

  • a porcelain baby doll wearing a long christening-style gown (If the gown is made for a newborn or young infant, the gown could be worn by the couple's baby.)

  • a little girl or toddler doll, wearing a gown and carrying a small basket filled with dried flowers from the bride's bouquet

I am currently using the fabric from a wedding gown that was created in the 1950's. I am making a gown for a young girl doll, who is also from the mid-20th century. Later this month, I shall have photos of the completed ensemble.

This lace and tulle gown was sewn by the bride in the early 1950's. Now, her daughter has asked me to create a new gown for her mother's favorite childhood doll.

Music for Miranda

Earlier this week, I heard a song called Dark Waltz. It is sung by Hayley Westenra.

This song is rich and enchanting. I think it is the perfect song for Miranda's Winter wedding.

Listen to Dark Waltz.

I hope you enjoy it!
